Frequently Asked Questions
Preventative & Diagnostic Care
At Kids First Dentistry, we recommend that you see us every 6 months to keep your teeth clean and spot any early issues.
The team at Kids First Dentistry is here to make you feel comfortable and give you the best care possible. Don't let fear stop you from coming in. Our warm, compassionate staff will help you get on track to a healthy smile.
Your oral health is tied to your overall health. Studies have shown that gum disease can be linked to other serious health conditions like heart disease and diabetes.
Dental Cleanings
Routine cleanings help prevent cavities and gum disease, reduce germs that cause bad breath, and improve your overall health.
Your Kids First Dentistry dental hygienist will gently remove plaque and tartar buildup from the surface of your teeth. Then, they'll clean, polish, and, floss for a healthy smile!
Even with regular brushing and flossing, professional cleanings are necessary to remove plaque and tartar from hard-to-reach areas between the teeth and below the gumline.
Emergency Dental Care
At Kids First Dentistry, we do our very best to accommodate same-day appointments for dental emergencies. We can almost always provide the emergency care you need when you need it.
A dental emergency is any dental issue that requires immediate care. This can include a severe toothache, cracked or knocked-out tooth, swelling of your face and jaw, a broken crown, or even a busted lip or deep cut. In other words, any problem in your mouth that can’t wait another day, from bleeding that won’t stop to pain that won’t go away, is a dental emergency.
You’ll need to act fast. Hold the tooth by the white top (known as the crown), not the roots. Whatever you do, don’t rub the tooth or scrape it, don’t wrap it in tissue or cloth, and don’t rinse it with water. That can damage it. If you see dirt or other materials on it, rinse it with cow’s milk or your own saliva. Then try to put your tooth back into the socket. If it doesn’t go all the way into the socket, bite down slowly and gently onto a gauze, napkin, or damp paper towel to keep it in place, or put it in a small container of cow’s milk or a cup of water with a pinch of table salt. Then head to one of our Kids First Dentistry offices right away and we’ll take it from there.
While the dentists at Kids First Dentistry can handle most dental emergencies, there are certain situations where going to the ER is advised. This includes more serious injuries, such as fractured or dislocated jaws, facial swelling that’s spreading to other parts of the body or making it hard to breathe or swallow, profuse bleeding that won’t stop, or a high fever accompanied by severe dental pain.
